Dealing with Misbehaving Teens

On November 28, 2013, three teens were arrested for stealing a motorcycle and used it to run a police officer. Misbehaving teen is not new. Many parents are having troubles with their teens but that is not a reason to give up. No matter what happens, you cannot get rid of the fact that he/she is your child. Disciplining a child is not easy but if you put your heart to it, you will surely be an effective parent.

You simply want your kids to live a good life that is why you do our best to discipline them. You do not want them to spend their life in prison or rehabilitation centres. With that, it is important that you know how to deal with misbehaving children especially teens. Here are some tips:

1.       Set rules

Teens push it hard so they will know where you stand and how you will respond. The first thing that you should do is set clear rules so they can understand it and make sure that you explain the repercussions for breaking the rules.

2.       Write it

To avoid misunderstandings, you need to write your rules. You need to post the document where your teen can see it all the time. This is to remind him/her what he/she should and should not do. You may find this simple but this will work.

3.       Be firm

Teens appeal to your weakness as a parent. When you established something, make sure to be firm and never give in to their pleas. Your leniency will surely be your weakness. Your teens are waiting for you to break.

4.       Be consistent

When it comes to disciplining, you and your partner should be consistent. That simply means that you have to be on the same page if you want it to work. If it is a “no”, it should be a “no” for both parents. Do not forget to be fair.

Challenges make you a good and strong parent. Teens will surely commit misbehaviours like smoking, stealing, drinking and many more but they need to know that you are always there when they’ve realized their mistakes and decided to change for the better.
